Berwick Street market in Soho was buzzing with kindness at lunchtime today…

Take a fish man, a bag man, the most charismatic fruit & veg traders you’ll find in London, a flower stall, some bread makers, a nut man and of course the pants man - ask them to trade for acts of kindness instead of cash and what do you get?

Hundreds of kisses, countless hugs, a couple of belly rubs, spontaneous dance and song performances, a few jugglers, some tap-dancers, a wide selection of jokes and even a guy balancing a bike on his chin.

But most of all…amid a world dragged down by doom, loom and recession you get a market place filled with ear-to-ear smiles, laughter and hundreds of happy people on a sunny day in London

In an Absolut world…currency would be replaced by acts of kindness.

THURSDAY: KINDNESS FOR COCKTAILS

Kindness was in abundance last night as Londoners went out of their way to compliment and high five bar staff in exchange for an Absolut cocktail. Soho bars Jrink, Zebrano on Greek Street, Graphic and 2 Floors were buzzing with an extra friendly after-work crowd as everyone got into the spirit of being kind. The kindness spread in the later hours across The Old Shoreditch Station, Favela Chic, Light Bar, Tabernacle and Zigfrid, where even the more sophisticated Shoreditch types demonstrated extraordinary acts of kindness! WEDNESDAY: LIVE MUSIC FOR KINDNESS

Crowds of sun bathers were entertained this lunch time with buskers roaming through Soho Square, Golden Square and Hoxton Square. Requests to play ranged from the Killers to Rolling Stones with even a few requests for Dolly Parton. The Buskers were encouraged by the Kindness of the audiences and general encouragement to sing and clap along. Hoxton Square was definitely the liveliest of the three squares and as a result gets our vote for the kindest square in the city. For more lively acts of kindness joins us tomorrow evening in participating bars throughout Soho and Shoreditch.

TUESDAY: SMILE FOR YOUR COFFEE

On a beautiful sunny morning in London, spirits were lifted even higher at The Breakfast Club in Soho and Café 1001 and Market Coffee House in Shoreditch. Early morning coffee seekers who were extra kind to the barista staff were rewarded with lattes, cappuccinos and a few healthy teas. Smiles, winks, loud ‘good mornings’, lots of compliments and laughs demonstrate just how kind Londoners can be.

To be involved in more kindness activity on Wednesday 22nd April, why not bring a picnic lunch and enjoy some of our buskers who will be roaming Soho Square, Golden Square and Hoxton square in a toasty, sun tanning 20 degrees.

BUSKERS WEDNESDAY LUNCHTIME

Head down to Soho Square, Golden Square or Hoxton Square to swap some kindness for a bit of bright lunchtime entertainment!

MONDAY: KIND COMMUTERS

Commuters today travelling through Clapham Junction and Wimbledon were especially kind for a Monday morning in London.

In exchange for their Acts of Kindness commuters received the reward of daily travel cards to set their week off on the right foot.

It was quite an unusual sight on a Monday morning to experience so many happy faces. But it is one we would like to see more often. One commuter even purchased some chocolates to share with his colleagues!

SUNDAY: KINDNESS IN CINEMAS

Film-goers in Clapham and Islington were pleasantly surprised on Sunday evening when a simple act of kindness got them more than they bargained for.

All it took was a pleasant greeting, polite manners, a sparkly smile or a compliment directed at one of the staff at Clapham Picture House and Islington Screen on the Green, and in exchange, hundreds of happy faces were rewarded with their snacks and drinks on the house.

As word started to spread, acts of kindness became more and more outrageous with even a few bum slaps and hello gorgeous thrown in for good measure!

KINDNESS AS CURRENCY
